Belmont, N.H : One student injured after a school bus crash near the Winnisquam Bridge on Friday, December 18, 2015

One student was hurt after a school bus was rear-ended in Belmont on Friday.

The Shaker Regional School District bus was hit after it stopped around 4 p.m. at a set of railroad tracks on Route 3 near the Winnisquam Bridge.

The student suffered a minor head injury and was taken to the hospital. The student was treated and released.

Raya Sar, 29, of Sanbornton, was driving the car that hit the bus. He fled after the crash and was later pulled over just over the town line in Sanbornton, police said.

Police said Sar had just been at a Christmas party, where he consumed several alcoholic beverages. Police said he failed a field sobriety test.

Sar was charged with DWI and conduct after an accident.

He was released on bail and will be arraigned Jan. 7.

Police credited the bus driver with taking care of the kids on her bus and giving police the information needed to locate and arrest Sar.

“Those students were in very good hands with that driver,” police said in a press release.
