Lead woman dies when car crashes in Boulder Canyon

A 70-year-old Lead woman died when her car crashed Monday morning in Boulder Canyon and about two miles west of Sturgis.According to the South Dakota Highway Patrol, Jerolyn Mary Ruth was eastbound in a 2004 Buick Raineer when the car crossed the center line and veered across the westbound lanes into the north ditch. Ruth's car hit a rock embankment and rolled onto its passenger side. Ruth, who was not wearing a seat belt, died at Rapid City Regional Hospital.A passenger in Ruth's car, Lesile J. Christiansen, 60, wore a seat belt and received minor injuries.The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. The Sturgis Police Department and the Lawrence County Sheriff's Office assisted at the scene.
