ROCHESTER, NH : a car accident on the Spaulding Turnpike on Saturday, June 3, 2017
New Hampshire State Police responded to a car accident on the Spaulding Turnpike Saturday morning that sent a driver to the hospital with serious injuries. State police reported the crash occurred around 6:48 a.m. June 3 on the southbound side of the turnpike between exits 12 and 13.
The vehicle, 2007 Kia Sorento, was located off the road and up against one of the support beams of the overhead traffic signs. The operator was identified as Christy Marcoux, 35, of Ossipee. Marcoux sustained serious injuries and was med-flighted to Portland Hospital in Portland, Maine, police said
Police said on-scene investigation showed Marcoux left the travel portion of the roadway and struck the traffic sign support beam. The cause of the crash remained under investigation Saturday afternoon.
As a precaution, the state Department of Transportation was contacted to check the integrity of the traffic sign support beam. The right travel lane was closed for approximately 45 minutes, but police said traffic was not impacted.
New Hampshire State Police were assisted at the scene by members of Rochester Fire Department, DOT and Life Flight of Maine.
