Saturday motorcycle crash leaves Astoria woman in critical condition

Oregon State Police troopers are investigating a motorcycle crash on Oregon 47 that injured an Astoria couple Saturday afternoon just north of Vernonia.

According to a press release from OSP, around 12:30 p.m., a group of about 80 motorcyclists were riding along Oregon 47 near Biggs Road.One of the bikes, a 2011 Harley Davidson, driven by Markku K. Tila, 50, was headed southbound then traveled off the shoulder, hit a highway marker and landed in a ditch.

Markku Tila's passenger, Leslie Michele Tila, 42, was thrown from the motorcycle and is in critical condition. She was transported from the scene by helicopter to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center.

Markku Tila was also transported to Legacy Emanuel with minor injuries. Both riders were wearing protective helmets.
