Claude Combs, the sheriff in Washington County, Indiana, was injured in a one-vehicle crash near Smedley, Wednesday afternoon.
State police said Combs' SUV wrecked his department-issued vehicle along State Road 60, west of Salem, at about 3 p.m.
Combs was hurt and taken to St. Vincent Salem Hospital for treatment. Neither the Indiana State Police nor the Washington County Sheriff's Department could comment on Combs' condition Wednesday afternoon.
According to a press release, the preliminary investigation revealed Sheriff Combs experienced a medical issue.His black 2011 Chevrolet Tahoe left the roadway, striking a ditch and flipping several times before coming to rest. Sheriff Combs was wearing his seat belt.
Sheriff Combs was transported via ground ambulance to the St Vincent Hospital in Salem with non-life threatening injuries.
