Colona, IL : Motorcyclist dies in Interstate 80 crash on Sunday afternoon, August 14, 2016

An unidentified motorcyclist died Sunday afternoon in a two-vehicle accident on Interstate 80 near Colona, according to Illinois State Police.

A moving box truck was traveling west on Interstate 80 about 1:05 p.m. at Mile Marker 6 near Colona, according to a news release from the state police. The truck collided at the merge with the motorcycle, which entered from the Cleveland Road ramp.

The motorcyclist’s identity is being withheld pending family notification.

Westbound Interstate 80 traffic was diverted to westbound Interstate 74/280 at the Interstates 80/74 interchange (known as "the Big X") during investigation and recovery efforts at the crash scene. Interstate 80 eastbound in the area remained open.

The Illinois departments of transportation and natural resources, Colona Fire and Police Department, Illinois State Police Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit and Illinois State Police District 7 responded to the scene.

The crash remained under investigation Sunday by Illinois State Police.
