Emerson, N.J : North Jersey bicyclist seriously injured in crash with car on Thursday night, February 23, 2017
Police say a man was struck by a car and seriously injured Thursday night as he rode a bicycle through town.
The victim, identified only as a male in his 40s or 50s, was taken by helicopter to Hackensack University Hospital, where he remained Friday morning.
"He was severely injured," said Emerson police Chief Michael Mazzeo. "We're trying to determine (his condition)."
Mazzeo said the 17-year-old driver told police he was stopped at a sign about 7 p.m. on Clinton Street, let a few cars passed and then began making a westbound left onto Main Street where the bicyclist was hit.
"According to (the driver), he didn't see the bicyclist," Mazzeo said.
The accident is under investigation.
