KENT, WA : Man killed and woman critical after car slams into semi trailer in Kent on Friday, December, 8th 2017
A man was killed and a woman was critically injured overnight when their car ran a red light and slammed into a semi trailer in Kent, police said.
Officers and medics responded to the scene, at 68th Avenue South and South 196th Street, at about 12:45 a.m. Friday after receiving reports of a serious accident.
A mangled Toyota Corolla was found wedged under a semi trailer, with the roof sheared off.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. His female passenger was unconscious. She was rushed to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with critical injuries.
The names and ages of the man and woman have not been released.
A preliminary investigation found that the Corolla was heading west on 196th Street when the driver ran a red light and went under the semi trailer.
A Kent police sergeant at the crash scene said the driver may have tried to stop at the red light but was unsuccessful.
The roadway was closed for hours after the crash but has since reopened.
