McHenry, MD : Two people killed in a head-on collision on U.S. Route 219 at Fox Den Road on Monday, May 23, 2016

Two people were killed Monday in a head-on collision on U.S. Route 219 at Fox Den Road, Maryland State Police said.

Joyce Streifel, 63, of Hagerstown was operating a 1998 Mazda southbound in the vicinity of the Lakeside Creamery when it crossed the double line for unknown reasons and struck a 2009 Toyota driven by Dorothy George, 71, of Grantsville, police said.

Streifel was pronounced dead at the scene of the 1:58 p.m. crash.

Gary Broadwater, 49, of Grantsville, a passenger in the George vehicle, was pronounced dead at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, West Virginia, police said. Dorothy George also was taken to the Morgantown hospital. Her condition was not available late Monday.

Police said the investigation is continuing.
