Authorities say a minivan driver that caused a five-vehicle crash injuring six was picking up debris in the middle of the highway.
Nevada Highway Patrol said the crash happened about 9:20 a.m. Thursday on northbound U.S. 95 at Las Vegas Boulevard when a burgundy minivan stopped in the right lane to remove a vent from the roadway.
A Ford F-250 didn't realize traffic had stopped, crashing into a Mazda 3 in front of it, and then creating the chain reaction into three more vehicles.
A man and woman in the Mazda were hospitalized in critical condition. Four others were also taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The minivan driver drove away but faces a citation for impeding the flow of traffic.
The highway was shut for three hours.
