Lubbock, TX : Wolfforth man dead following Amarillo crash early Friday morning, March 10, 2017

A Wolfforth man died in an early-morning crash Friday in Amarillo, police said, after a vehicle ran a red light at Southwest 6th Avenue and South Adams Street, resulting in two being jailed on intoxication manslaughter charges.

The Amarillo Police Department was called to the scene at 2:18 a.m. where investigators determined that a white Mitsubishi Mirage had been eastbound on 6th at Adams when a second vehicle, a black 2002 Dodge Dakota, northbound on S. Adams, had collided. One of the vehicles (it was not determined which one in APD’s initial report) had run a red light, resulting in the Dodge hitting the passenger side of the Mitsubishi.

Jospeh Marricle, 40, of Wolfforth, the passenger in the Mitsubishi, died at the scene. An autopsy has been ordered by Justice of the Peace Gary Jackson.

The driver of the Mitsubishi, Arturo Hernandez, 29, and the driver of the Dodge, Rich Britten, 46, both of Amarillo, were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police said both drivers showed signs of intoxication and were later booked in the Potter County Detention Center on charges of intoxication manslaughter.

The accident is currently under investigation by the APD Traffic Investigations Unit.
