Lead, S.D : Spearfish man dies in ATV crash in the Black Hills on Sunday, June 15, 2014

A Spearfish, S.D. man died from injuries sustained in a one-vehicle ATV crash in the Black Hills on Sunday, June 15.

John Lawrence Sullivan, 72, of Spearfish, S.D., was driving a 2012 Polaris Sportsman 550 eastbound with a group of ATVs. The group of ATVs slowed to turn left into a rest area and Sullivan began to brake when he noticed the turning. His ATV began to skid on the gravel road and went into the south ditch. The ATV rolled and Sullivan was thrown from the ATV.

Sullivan was flown to a hospital in Rapid City. He died early the morning of June 17 from injuries suffered in the crash.

No further information is immediately available.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, Brownsville Fire Department, Nemo Fire Department and Deadwood Ambulance assisted.
