Independence, MO : Two teenagers die in Missouri 291 crash near Kansas City on Monday, June 27, 2016
Two teenagers died in a single-vehicle crash at Missouri 291 and Salisbury Road at 4:20 a.m. Monday in an accident that shut down the highway from Truman Road to U.S. 24, according to the Independence police.
The driver of a 2006 Chevrolet Impala was traveling southbound on Missouri 291 when the car struck a center sign south of Salisbury Road, overturned and caught fire, police said. The male driver, 19, and another male passenger, 17, died. Two other male passengers were taken to a hospital and are expected to survive.
One of the teens killed was identified as Anthony Dunlap, who graduated this year from the Grain Valley School District, the district said on its Facebook page.
“Please keep Anthony’s family and friends in your prayers,” the district said.
The identity of the other teen who died was not available.
While northbound Missouri 291 reopened before 7 a.m., southbound lanes did not reopen until after 9:30 a.m.
