Mother’s Day weekend took a tragic turn Saturday for one Merced family.
A 54-year-old Merced woman died and her teenage son suffered minor injuries when their vehicle overturned just before noon on Highway 99 at Campus Parkway, California Highway Patrol Officer Moises Onsurez told the Sun-Star.
The woman was identified by the Merced County Coroner’s Office as Rosemary Hernandez of Merced, the Sun-Star has confirmed.
She was thrown from the vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene, Onsurez said.
“We believe she was the mother of the driver,” Onsurez said in a telephone interview.
Few details of the crash were immediately clear.
