Las Vegas, NV : 1 killed, 1 injured in rollover crash near Red Rock Canyon early Thursday morning, July 28, 2016

One woman was killed and another seriously injured in a rollover crash early Thursday morning near the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

The fatal crash was reported at 2:33 a.m. on state Route 159 near Calico Basin, just north of the scenic route turnoff, trooper Jason Buratczuk said.

The highway patrol said the black Chevy Tahoe left the roadway and went into the adjacent desert area for unknown reasons before rolling several times.

The driver, 23-year-old Audrianna Sapp, wasn’t wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The 25-year-old passenger was wearing a seat belt and suffered serious injuries to her lower extremities, Buratczuk said. She was taken to University Medical Center, and her condition is unknown, he said.

It is unclear whether speed or impairment factored into the crash, Buratczuk said. The highway patrol is investigating the crash.

This crash was the 36th fatal crash, resulting in the 39th fatality in the highway patrol’s southern command for 2016, according to Trooper Chelsea Stuenkel.
