Hutchinson, KS : Two people injured after violent collision in Gray County on Monday night, September 26, 2016
Two people were sent to area hospitals Monday night after their vehicles collided at a rural intersection in Gray County.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, Jerald D. Wartman, 71, Ingalls, was driving a 2002 Dodge Ram 3500 pickup north on County Road 4 - at Y Road, or about 6 miles north of K-144 - at 8:15 p.m. and failed to yield.
Wartman's pickup collided in the intersection with a 1997 Chevy S-10 pickup driven by Johan Newfeld, 61, Montezuma.
Newfeld's S-10 rolled and came to rest on the driver's side facing southwest.
Wartman's Dodge continued northeast, striking a utility pole, and came to rest in a field facing southeast.
Wartman was taken to St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City, and Newfeld was taken by Haskell County EMS to Western Plains Medical Center in Dodge City.
Neither driver was wearing a seat belt.
