Police say a man was thrown from his vehicle and killed after crashing on an icy highway in southwestern Pennsylvania.

The crash happened in Conemaugh Township, Somerset County, about 60 miles southeast of Pittsburgh.

Township police say a 53-year-old man lost control of the car on a curve of Route 219 near the Davidsville exit and was thrown from the vehicle when it rolled just before 1 a.m. Sunday.

The crash occurred nearly a day before a major winter storm moved through the region that was expected to bring three to six inches of snow to most areas of western Pennsylvania, but more than a foot and blizzard conditions along the eastern seaboard.

The coroner was not releasing the victim's name Monday because his family had still not been notified of his death.
