Orlando, FL : Woman, son rescued after crash that left car dangling from overpass near Waterford Lakes Sunday, August 21, 2016
A 27-year-old Altamonte Springs woman has been been ticked for careless driving after a crash that left her and her son dangling from an overpass near Waterford Lakes Sunday, troopers said.
Witnesses said the driver, Lucilinda Quiles, was headed west on State Road 408 just before the incident near mile marker 21 at 10:50 a.m., Sgt. Kim Montes said.
Her vehicle, a 2015 Mazda, moved away from the left lane, into a grass median and then into a barrier wall, Montes said.
The car ended up crashing into guardrail then dangled over Kehoe Boulevard from an overpass.
According to Montes, the guardrail kept the car from going over the edge.
Fire rescue officials helped Quiles and her 7-year-old son, Ayden Williams, get out of the car and secured the vehicle, Montes said.
Quiles was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center and Ayden was transported to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children. It's unknown the severity of their injuries.
Quiles was cited in the crash.
The wreck left westbound lanes shut down for several hours. On Sunday afternoon, it was unclear what led up to the crash.
