San Leandro, CA : One person died after a fatal collision involving two vehicles on I-880, north of Washington Avenue on Tuesday night, February 2, 2016
The California Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal collision involving two vehicles that occurred Tuesday night on Interstate 880.
All southbound lanes on I-880 reopened at 10:47 p.m. after they were blocked at Washington Avenue while police investigate a crash that killed one person, said CHP Officer Marc Johnston. Traffic was diverted off I-880 to southbound I-238.
Officers responded to a report of collision involving two vehicles, including an overturned car, at 8:28 p.m. on southbound I-880 just north of Washington Avenue. Alameda County firefighters initially shut down the entire freeway, as the aftermath of the crash spanned multiple lanes.
One person died at the scene and authorities have not identified who they are. One person with unknown injuries was transported to Eden Medical Center.
The cause of the crash was being investigated.
