Maywood, IL : 23-year-old man killed, another injured in River Forest crash early Friday, February 19, 2016
A 23-year-old man was killed and another man was injured in a single-vehicle crash early Friday in west suburban River Forest.
The crash happened about 2:25 a.m. near the intersection of Keystone and Hawthorne avenues, according to River Forest Deputy Police Chief Jim O’Shea.
An officer on patrol found the four-door vehicle, empty and abandoned, crashed into a cement embankment of the train tracks, O’Shea said.
Friends who had been driving behind the crashed vehicle took one of those in the car to his family’s home, O’Shea said. He was later taken to a hospital. The second person in the car was taken directly to a hospital
Raymundo Mireles-Morales died at 5:45 a.m. at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, authorities said. He lived in the 600 block of North 9th Avenue in Maywood.
The other victim, whose age was not released, is still being treated at Loyola, O’Shea said. He has undergone several surgeries and his condition has improved.
The victims had been drinking at a bar on Madison Street in Forest Park before the crash, O’Shea said. It’s not yet known which of the two was driving the vehicle when it crashed.
The crash remains under investigation by River Forest police, the Illinois State Police reconstruction unit and the medical examiner’s office, O’Shea said.
