PEORIA, IL : A hit-and-run accident on Monday, December, 4th 2017
A 25-year-old Peoria man, apparently trying to evade police, ended up injuring a bicyclist in a hit-and-run accident Monday near Landmark Apartments, according to police.
Roosevelt Hunter, 25, was still in the Peoria County Jail late Tuesday. He was charged with the accident, leaving the scene and numerous other traffic violations, including driving on a suspended license and operating an uninsured vehicle. Bond was set at $5,000.
The victim, a 22-year-old man, was taken to OSF HealthCare Saint Francis Medical Center. Witnesses told police the impact caused the victim to fly into the air before landing. No further information was available.
Hunter continued to try to dodge police after the hit-and-run, which occurred about 2:30 p.m. at the intersection of Martin Luther King Drive and Shipman Street, the entrance of the apartment complex. According to authorities, the vehicle was still idling when it was located in the parking lot of the apartment complex. Hunter was arrested after a foot chase.
Though police were not at the scene when the accident occurred, they had been pursuing Hunter throughout the area, alerted that he might be carrying a weapon.
