Morganton, North Carolina
Two Burke County Public Schools buses were involved in minor wrecks on Monday.
A total of 17 students were on the two buses at the time of the incidents, but no injuries were reported.
Bus No. 195 from Hildebran Elementary was rear ended by a car at 220 U.S. 70 E in Hildebran, according to Cheryl Shuffler, public information officer for BCPS.
The bus was stopped at the time of the collision, according to Dave Faherty with WSOCTV.
“Five students and the driver are safe,” Shuffler said. “Principal Randy Sain arrived on the scene, and since all of the students on board live near the wreck site, he was able to notify all of the parents in person,” she said.
The second wreck occurred on N.C. Highway 126 and involved Bus No. 235, she said. There were 12 elementary and middle school EC (exceptional children) students on board.
“All students and the driver are safe and no one was injured,” Shuffler said. “Parents of the students involved received personal phone calls from school personnel.”
Attempts to contact Highway Patrol were unsuccessful as of press time. More information will be published as it becomes available.
