Vacaville, CA : Vacaville resident were killed two other was injured in a two vehicle crash` at Interstate 80, west of Lagoon Valley Road On Sunday, May 1st, 2016
Two people, including one Vacaville resident, were killed in an accident involving two vehicles and one pedestrian that also injured three passengers on eastbound Interstate 80, west of Lagoon Valley Road Sunday.
The CHP's Golden Gate Communications Center broadcast a report of a collision shortly before 5:30 a.m., about the accident, which partially blocked the number four lane and entrapped parties in both vehicles.
A Vacaville police department officer had witnessed the collision and attempted to provide medical aid before the responding units arrived. The number three and four lanes were blocked by numerous emergency personnel vehicles, CHP said.
According to a California Highway Patrol report, the tragedy occurred early Sunday morning when an intoxicated 28-year-old female driver of a 2001 Honda Accord struck a 2016 Jeep SUV containing three passengers. The driver of the vehicle
was standing beside it on the passenger side while parked on the right shoulder. The driver pulled over for roughly three to five minutes because he was feeling ill, police said.
Authorities say the Honda Accord driver, 28-year old Latvia Jackson of Vacaville, allowed her vehicle to drift onto the right shoulder, hitting the Jeep, which forced it to spin, colliding with the man standing beside the car in the process.
The right rear passenger, 53-year-old Maria Rincon-Sierra of Hailey, Idaho, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The other three occupants of the Jeep -- all adult residents of Hailey, Idaho -- suffered minor to major
injuries and were transported to Northbay Medical Center in Fairfield.
Police say Jackson became entrapped inside her vehicle and endured major injuries. CHP revealed it took approximately 20 minutes to remove her from the car.
Jackson was then transported to Kaiser Permanente Vacaville Medical Center, where doctors learned she was suffering from severe internal bleeding. While in surgery, Jackson succumbed to her wounds and was pronounced dead.
Alcohol and drugs are a suspected factor in this collision, according to CHP.
