SARASOTA COUNTY, FL : Fatal Sarasota crash closes Fruitville Road east of I-75 on Wednesday, 26th December 2018

A fatal crash Wednesday morning involving multiple vehicles closed Fruitville Road in both directions east of Interstate 75, the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office reports.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the crash damaged a power pole and Florida Power & Light is on the scene to de-energize the lines. As a result, nearby homes and businesses may temporarily lose power.

Jennifer Kveglis with SNN-TV reports that one person was killed.

The crash initially closed all lanes of Fruitville Road near Sun-N-Fun RV Resort, 7125 Fruitville Road. One eastbound lane was opened at about 11:20 a.m. At 4 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office reported that all westbound lanes were going to remain closed for “a few more hours” as FPL replaced a traffic signal pole. One eastbound lane remained open.
