Linthicum, MD : Woman died and man injured in fatal accident involved a Megabus and car at Rt-295 n/b & I-695 on Sunday morning, December 27, 2015

An accident Sunday morning in Linthicum that involved a Megabus and a car killed a woman and sent a man to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center with serious, life threatening injuries, according to fire officials.

The Fire Department responded to the interchange of Baltimore Washington Parkway and the Baltimore Beltway at 8:15 a.m. and discovered the 65-year-old woman was trapped, said Lt. Craig Oldershaw, a fire department spokesman.

The woman, identified as Centreville resident Miriam Barnshaw, was pronounced dead on the scene, according to Maryland State Police officials.

Her son, Brian Barnshaw, 30, also of Centreville, was driving the car and was transported to Shock Trauma, police said. None of the 18 passengers on the Megabus reported being injured.

Preliminary investigation indicates that shortly before 8:30 a.m., the Barnshaws were traveling west on the Baltimore Beltway before exiting onto the Baltimore Washington Parkway northbound.

Their vehicle entered the merge area of the Parkway when Brian Barnshaw lost control of the car and skidded perpendicular to the northbound lanes. Then it was struck by a communter bus traveling in the fast lane.

Sean Hughes, Director of Megabus.com North America Corporate Affairs, said the bus was traveling from Washington, D.C. to New York City.

"Safety is our top priority and Megabus.com is fully cooperating with the authorities with their investigation into the incident," he said in an email. "Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone involved.”
