Roosevelt, UT : A fatal car accident near Ioka on Tuesday, July 25, 2017
The Utah Highway Patrol has released the names of the victims of a fatal car accident near Ioka on July 23, 2017.According to a press release from the Utah Highway Patrol, at approximately 4:36 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, a 1995 Chrysler carrying the driver and two passengers was traveling eastbound on SR-87, also known as Ioka Lane. At the same time, a 2008 Hyundai was traveling westbound along the same stretch of road carrying the driver and four passengers.
The driver of the Chrysler suddenly "drove left of center, crossing the center line, and driving into the westbound lane," the release states. The Chrysler drove head-on into the Hyundai, causing the deaths of the drivers of both vehicles.
Devin Kirk, 18, of Heber, Utah, was driving the Chrysler. Shauna Allen, 46, of Wales, Utah, was driving the Hyundai.
The crash resulted in no other deaths, but a 12-year-old female passenger of the Hyundai sustained serious injuries and was flown via air ambulance to a local hospital. All other injuries to passengers were minor or none.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation, but the Highway Patrol reports that neither speed nor impairment are considered to be contributing factors.
