Angola, IN : Cleveland woman dies in Toll Road crash on Sunday night, July 20, 2014
A Cleveland woman died Sunday night when the truck in which she was riding rear-ended another truck on the Indiana Toll Road east of the Angola exit, Indiana State Police said today.
Toyia Hill-Griffin, 37, died at the scene of the 10:40 p.m. crash, state police at Fort Wayne said in a statement.
Police said a truck driven by Ramon D. Griffin, 38, of Cleveland was headed east on the Toll Road when it rear-ended a slow-moving truck driven by Veguilla Aquino, 66, of Chicago.
Griffin was taken to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne with numerous injuries, police said. His condition was not immediately known.
Neither Aquino nor his passenger were injured, police said. They said all were wearing seat belts, but because of the crash's severity, Hill-Griffin's injuries could not have been reduced.
Other slower-moving traffic was present at the time, police said. They said the crash remains under investigation.
State police were assisted by the Steuben County Sheriff's Department, EMS and coroner's office, Parkview Samaritan, Fremont Fire Department and the state police's Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division.
