Gainesville, FL : Jack-knifed semi snarls traffic on I-75 on May, Friday, 19th 2017

A crash on Interstate 75 north of 39th Avenue in Gainesville that involved a jack-knifed tractor-trailer rig had northbound traffic backed up for much of Friday afternoon.

The crash was reported at 12:40 p.m. at mile marker 393 when a 2006 Volvo tractor-trailer rig driven by Ramiz Mustafa, 52, of Bowling Green, Ky., jack-knifed and collided with a guardrail in the median, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

FHP reported that the two inside lanes were blocked while crews from Alachua County Fire Rescue contained a diesel spill. Alachua County sheriff’s spokesman Art Forgey said about 30 gallons spilled.

Mustafa was taken to North Florida Regional Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.

Driver fatigue is being investigated as a contributing factor and Mustafa received a citation for careless driving, the release states. He was also given a citation for a commercial motor vehicle violation.
