Weld, ME : Massachusetts man died in a single-vehicle crash on School Street on Saturday night, March 12, 2016
A Massachusetts man died in a single-vehicle crash late Saturday night on School Street, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland said Sunday.
The crash happened about 11:30 p.m., when Richard Rogers, 58, of Pembroke, Massachusetts, who was traveling north on Route 156, lost control of his 2006 Honda Civic.
Rogers' car went onto the dirt shoulder of the roadway and then went into a spin, McCausland said. The Honda then crossed the centerline and struck a large tree.
Rogers died at the scene, he said. The rear of the Honda sustained massive damage.
Excessive speed and the possible presence of deer in or near the roadway are the likely cause of the crash, McCausland said in a news release.
Trooper Reid Bond of Troop C is the primary investigator in the crash and was assisted at the scene by Cpl. Kevin Hartley of the Franklin County Sheriff's Office.
The Weld and Wilton fire departments also assisted.
