Rochester, NY : Man charged in crash; 2 critically injured on Wednesday, March 22nd 2017
A Rochester man is facing felony charges following a crash that injured eight people, two seriously, in northeast Rochester Wednesday night.
Luis Ramirez, 24, was charged with first-degree assault and first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, both felonies, said Rochester Police Investigator Jacqueline Shuman. He was also charged with operating a motor vehicle while impaired by drugs, failure to stop at a stop sign and unlicensed operator.
Ramirez was involved in a two-car crash at Northland Avenue and Jerold Street about 7 p.m. Eight people were injured and taken to area hospitals, including Ramierz. He was treated and released to police.
Two passengers in his car suffered life-threatening injuries and were taken to Strong Memorial Hospital for treatment, according to police. Their medical statuses were not available on Thursday.
Ramirez, who is scheduled to be arraigned in City Court Friday morning, is accused of causing the crash after running a stop sign at the intersection and driving while under the influence of drugs, according to police. Officers continue to investigate the crash.
