State troopers are investigating the death of a 12-year-old girl who was in a rollover crash at a Carlisle railroad crossing this afternoon that sent three other youths to area hospitals.
The rollover crash was reported at 4:48 p.m.
Carlisle police Chief Michael Bruck said it appeared that a silver minivan with four occupants was traveling south on Union Road coming into the village at a high rate of speed when it lost control. The minivan went on the wrong side of the road and hit a railroad crossing arm at the Norfolk Southern rail crossing before rolling onto its side in the side yard of a home in the 300 block of Gladys Avenue.
The four occupants in the minivan ranged in age from 12 to 17, and no train was involved in the crash.
The 12-year-old girl was pronounced dead at the scene by the coroner’s investigator; one was flown by medical helicopter to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton; and the other two crash victims were taken by ambulance to Atrium Medical Center in Middletown, Bruck said.
Ohio Highway Patrol troopers from the Lebanon post will conduct the crash investigation. No other information was available.
