Wilmington, North Carolina
Highway Patrol troopers are investing a head-on collision that killed both drivers.
A 68-year-old woman driving a white Chevrolet Impala struck a Ford F-150 head-on, according Highway Patrol Sgt. G.S. Johnson. The woman's vehicle was missing the two left tires and she was driving on rims for at least five miles before the wreck near the intersection of Cherryville Road and Old Stubbs Road in Cleveland County around 6 p.m. Wednesday.
"We believe she was in a wreck in Cherryville earlier," Johnson said.
Johnson believes she may have been suffering from some unknown medical condition. The two drivers, whose names have not been released, died at the scene. The driver of the F-150 was a 70-year-old man, driving home to Cherryville.
No other people were in the cars at the time of the wreck. Highway Patrol will continue to investigate.
