FARMINGTON, NM : Nageezi man killed in crash on US 550 identified by State Police on Friday, January, 26th 2018
A Nageezi man who died in a crash on U.S. Highway 550 Friday has been identified by New Mexico State Police.
Charles Martinez, 44, was pronounced dead at the scene of the wreck, which took place at approximately 4:42 p.m. Friday on the highway 22 miles south of Bloomfield.
A State Police press release states the initial investigation showed a 1987 Chevrolet truck was southbound on 550 when, for unknown reasons, it crossed into the northbound lanes. The driver lost control of the vehicle and overturned on the shoulder. The single-cab vehicle was occupied by four males, none of whom were wearing seatbelts, according to the press release.
Indicators at the scene showed alcohol may have been a contributing factor in the crash, the release states.
The driver, identified as Burgess Cayaditto, of Cuba, and two of the passengers were transported to the San Juan Regional Hospital for treatment, according to the release.
The crash remains under investigation.
