Four people died after a pickup didn't halt at a stop sign and rammed into the side of another vehicle in eastern Nebraska, authorities said Monday.
Three vehicles were involved in the accident that occurred around 8:30 p.m. Sunday, about three miles north-northeast of Valley, at the intersection of Nebraska Highway 36 and 252nd Street.
The Douglas County Sheriff's Office said in a news release that a northbound pickup on 252nd didn't stop at the intersection and hit a sport utility vehicle that was going east on the highway. The impact knocked the SUV into oncoming traffic, the Sheriff's Office said, where it was struck by a westbound vehicle.
Three of the people in those vehicles were pronounced dead at the scene, and a fourth died later after being flown to an Omaha hospital.
According to the Sheriff's Office, the two people killed in the eastbound SUV were Amber Wood, 40, of Kennard; and Jason Miller, 49, of Valley. The two in the westbound vehicle were identified as John Prusa, 57, and Dorine Prusa, 55, both of Howells.
Two teenagers in the pickup were hospitalized but were expected to survive their injuries, Chief Deputy Tom Wheeler said. Their names and other personal information were not released.
The teenage driver likely will be charged, the Sheriff's Office said.
