Huntsville, TX : 5-year-old boy seriously injured in wreck on Saturday, April 16, 2016

A 5-year-old Huntsville boy suffered life-threatening injuries in a two-vehicle accident Saturday.

Police say the boy was a passenger in the back seat of a 1999 gray Toyota Corolla sedan which was stopped at a red light in the intersection of Old Colony Road and Highway 19 about 8:50 p.m.

A 16-year-old male teenager driving a white Chevrolet pickup truck was traveling behind the Corolla and failed to stop at the light. The truck slammed into the sedan.

The 5-year-old was flown to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston with a serious head injury. Two women and another 5-year-old boy in the Corolla suffered minor injuries, as did the driver of the truck.

"The 16-year-old was from out of town and was here visiting relatives," Lt. Jim Barnes with the Huntsville Police Department. "He was not paying attention and rear-ended the Toyota. He was issued a citation for failure to control speed."

The condition of the 5-year-old in Houston was unavailable Monday.
