Hoyt , KS :One person killed and another passenger injured in crash after passenger car and a freight trailer crash along US - 75 on Wednesday , February 11th 2015
The Kansas Highway Patrol has identified the person who died after a crash between a passenger car and a freight trailer on US-75 highway near Hoyt.
A report from the KHP identified Jacqueline L. Moore, 56, of Topeka, as the victim.
About 7 p.m., Moore was driving a red Oldsmobile Alero and a Ryder truck collided in the area of County Road 110.
According to the report, the Oldsmobile was northbound on the highway when the Ryder truck "failed to yield at the stop sign" at the intersection.
At the time of the crash, the truck was westbound.
According to Con Olson, the regional director of the Jackson County EMS service, a total of seven people were treated for injuries stemming from two crashes as of 8:45 p.m.
In the car with Moore were Dwayne Laniar Anderson, 54, of Norton, and Shelli Zarazua, 50, of Topeka.
“Several people were stable,” Olson said when Anderson and Zarazua were taken from the scene.
Two people were taken to Stormont-Vail Regional Health’s trauma center, one person was taken to St. Francis and one person refused treatment — all from the crash involving the semitrailer, according to Olson.
Two more people from a second crash were also taken via ambulance to St. Francis Health Center, he said.
At 8:50 p.m., Olson said his crews were arriving at a crash scene in the southbound lanes of the highway just south of the original crash scene. No details were available from that crash.
The highway was closed to traffic at the 94th Street exit. Olson said residual crashes due to traffic backup were also tended to by paramedics. He said there were several instances where people involved in those crashes refused treatment.
“The sheriff’s office worked an additional injury accident south of the initial scene when a northbound passenger car collided into the rear of a Dodge pickup truck,” Morse said in his release.
It is unknown at this time if there will be any charges stemming from the crash.
