Westmoreland, TN : 2 killed, 1 injured in crash on Highway 31 in Sumner County early Friday morning, July 8, 2016

Police are investigating what led up to a fatal crash in Westmoreland early Friday morning.

Around 4 a.m., police responded to the scene on Highway 31 north of Phillips Hollow Road.

Witnesses said a black Hyundai in the northbound lanes veered into the southbound lanes.

The driver of a Ford pickup truck saw what was happening and swerved to avoid the crash.

When this happened, he was rear-ended by a red Nissan.

The driver of the Nissan was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Hyundai was taken to Vanderbilt, where she was later pronounced dead.

The driver of the pickup truck was taken to Sumner Regional Hospital, where he is in stable condition.
