Junction City woman injured Sunday in I-70 crash near Abilene
A Junction City woman was seriously injured after a three-vehicle crash Sunday afternoon on Interstate 70 in Dickinson County, authorities said.
The crash was reported at 4:24 p.m. Sunday on westbound i-70 about six miles west of Abilene.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 2013 Chevrolet Cruze was westbound on I-70 when it approached a 1991 Chevrolet Blazer and a 1995 Nissan pickup truck, both of which also were westbound on the highway.
The Cruze swerved to avoid rear-ending the Blazer and the Nissan. The driver of the Cruze then over-corrected, causing the Cruze to strike the Blazer.
The patrol said the Cruze and the Nissan came to rest in the driving lane and the Nissan came to rest on the shoulder.
The driver of the Cruze, identified as Jennifer Huerta, 24, of Junction City, was transported to Salina Regional Hospital with serious injuries. The patrol's online crash log didn't indicate whether Huerta was wearing a seat belt.
The driver of the Blazer, Samuel Payne, 60, of Abilene, and the driver of the Nissan, Deon Strauss, 51, of Abilene, were reported uninjured. The patrol said both drivers were wearing their seat belts.
All three drivers were reported to be alone in their vehicles.
