Las Vegas, NV : 1 person killed, 1 injured in crash involving ambulance, scooter at Fremont Street/Boulder Highway on Monday, February 9, 2015
One person was killed and another was injured during a crash in east Las Vegas on Monday morning, involving an ambulance and a scooter, according to police.
The crash happened at 11:54 a.m. at the three-way intersection of Fremont Street, Sahara Avenue and Boulder Highway.
A Las Vegas Metro police spokesman at the scene told FOX5 that the ambulance was traveling west on Sahara with its emergency lights activated. Traffic had stopped at the intersection, but the scooter was using a bicycle lane to get around the traffic. The scooter slammed into the front quarter-panel of the ambulance.
The spokesman said the driver of the scooter, a 50-year-old man, died at the scene. The passenger, a woman, suffered several broken bones and was taken to an area hospital for treatment of critical injuries.
Officer Larry Hadfield, of Metro, said the intersection was closed to traffic at 1:15 p.m., and urged drivers to avoid the area. He said investigators would be at the scene for several hours.
The identity of the victim will be released by the Clark County Coroner's Office once the person's family has been notified.
This marked the 12th traffic-related fatality in Metro's jurisdiction in 2015.
