TOWN OF FULTON, WI : Edgerton woman killed in crash on Thursday, October 6th, 2016
Authorities say an Edgerton woman was killed after her car struck another vehicle head-on on Highway 51 south of Edgerton on Thursday afternoon.
A 46-year-old Edgerton woman was pronounced dead at Mercy Hospital and Trauma Center, Janesville, after the Volkswagen Golf she was driving north on Highway 51 drifted on a curve, went into the southbound lane and hit a Hyundai Elantra, according to a news release from the Rock County Sheriff's Office.
The crash happened about 2:17 p.m. Thursday just north of the intersection with County M, according to the release.
The Hyundai driver, a 36-year-old Janesville man, was transported to Mercy Hospital and Trauma Center with a broken arm and leg. The Edgerton woman sustained "critical injuries," according to the release.
Police were withholding the names of the man and woman Thursday evening, and a crash reconstruction was continuing.
Rock County sheriff's deputies, the Wisconsin State Patrol, and Edgerton police and fire departments responded to the crash.
According to the release, the man driving the Hyundai said he tried to avoid the woman's Volkswagen, but his car was struck "partially head-on." Preliminary evidence at the scene corroborates the man's statements, the sheriff's office reported.
