Franklin, IL: 53-years-old Angel-Reyes died and seven injured in crash along I-65 on Wednesday, August 5th 2015

A van traveling from Illinois crashed Wednesday on Interstate 65, killing a Chicago man who was thrown from the vehicle.Several sections of the interstate have been under construction this summer, and the accident happened near a work zone.The van was traveling from Chicago to Kentucky and was heading south on I-65 near Franklin about 1:30?p.m. when it ran off the right side of the road. The van rolled over, and Miguel Angel-Reyes, 53, of Chicago, was ejected from the vehicle during the incident. Reyes was pronounced dead at the scene by Johnson County Coroner Craig Lutz, according to a news release from Indiana State Police.Seven other men inside the van were injured and taken to local hospitals. None of the injuries were life-threatening, the release said.The men inside the van worked for Chicago-based Minute Men Staffing and were heading to a job in Kentucky, the release said.Police are still investigating the crash.Eladio R. Salinas, 45, of Chicago, was driving when the van went off the side of the road. Police are unsure why the van went off the road. Salinas was given a blood-alcohol test, and he tested negative for alcohol, the release said. As is typical in fatal accidents, Salinas’ blood will be tested for drugs and alcohol, the release said.The six other people inside the van were also taken to local hospitals.Salinas was taken to Franciscan St. Francis Health-Indianapolis, the release said. Another passenger was also taken to St. Francis, hospital spokesman Joe Stuteville said. Both were in good condition and expected to be released today, Stuteville said.One passenger went to Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital with an abdominal injury, and was listed in stable condition Wednesday evening.The others were taken to Columbus Regional Hospital; their conditions were not available, the release said. The status of the passengers and the extent of their injuries was not released by Columbus Regional Hospital.The other passengers’ names were not released Wednesday night.Indiana State Police is investigating why the van went off the road. The accident happened near a construction zone between Edinburgh and Franklin.The right southbound lane of I-65 was closed for about two hours during the investigation. Traffic backed up for miles while the lane was closed.The van was not required to have inspections, and the driver was not required to have a special license endorsement, Indiana State Police Officer John Perrine said.
