CRANSTON, RI : Cranston man charged with DUI after crash with cruiser on Thursday, 4th July 2019

A Cranston man was charged with driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol after the police say he collided with a marked cruiser at Wayland and Preston Avenues early Thursday, according to police chief Col. Michael J. Winquist.

Randi J. Ruzzo, 30, of 108 Preston Ave., ran a stop sign on Preston Avenue and pulled into the intersection in the path of the cruiser and Wayland Avenue at 1:48 a.m., Winquist said. The cruiser hit Ruzzo’s 2010 Hyundai Accent broadside, pushed it toward a grass berm and rolled it onto its side in the yard at 184 Wayland Ave.

The fire department used a hydraulic tool to extract Ruzzo from his car. He was taken by rescue to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The officer in the cruiser was also taken to Rhode Island Hospital and released after treatment.
