OHATCHEE, AL : Burglary suspect crashes into the Coosa on Friday, 24th August 2018

It’s a miracle no one was hurt Friday afternoon when a burglary suspect fled from Ashville police and led officers through Attalla, Rainbow City and Southside into Ohatchee before his car went off the road, airborne into the Coosa River causeway between Robbins Mill Road and Callie Street.

He ended up at least 50 feet out in the water, where emergency responders saw him standing on top of his car as it sank in the water yelling to them that he couldn’t swim.

Southside Fire Chief Tim McKee and Rainbow City Police Capt. John Bryant swam out and got him, bringing him to shore without incident.
