The girls were driving on the gravel service road, which is west of Hwy. 41 in Jackson Township, about 7 a.m., according to the Scott County Sheriff’s Office. It was determined that the car left the road and collided with trees between the road and some railroad tracks.

Both teens were unresponsive when the Shakopee Fire Department arrived. They extricated the driver, who was airlifted to Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis.

The passenger was dead at the scene. The driver died at the hospital.

The sheriff’s office identified the teens as both 17-year-old students in the New Prague School District. Drugs and alcohol weren’t factors in their deaths. Neither was wearing seat belts.
