Fort Myers, FL : Collier man killed in Bonita Springs crash on April, Wednesday 12th 2017
Officials on Wednesday night identified the man killed in a crash in Bonita Springs.
Martin Wayne Corbin, 39, of North Naples, died in a head-on collision with a commercial truck on Bonita Grande Drive, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The driver of the commercial truck, Edmund Thomas Roberts, 46, of Golden Gate Estates, was driving northbound on Bonita Grande Drive north of Snell Road and slowed down when he was approaching traffic, according to an FHP report.
The driver lost control of the truck when he hit the brakes, the report states. The truck rotated counterclockwise and went into the southbound lane of Bonita Grande Drive, directly into the path of Corbin's Ford Transit work van, FHP reports.
The front left side of the commercial truck struck the front left side of the van, the report states.
The truck stopped with the cab in the southbound lane and the trailer in the northbound lane. Corbin's work van rotated counterclockwise and stopped on the west shoulder.
The truck driver suffered minor injuries. Alcohol was not a factor in the crash, and both drivers were wearing their seat belts, according to FHP. Charges are pending an investigation.
Bonita Grande Drive was shut down between East Terry Street and Bonita Beach Road for about five hours while officials investigated the crash.
