Boone County, KY : Seven preschoolers were on Schools bus Tuesday when it collided with a truck on U.S. 42 near Ryle High School on September 2nd 2014
Seven preschoolers were on a Boone County Schools bus Tuesday when it collided with a truck on U.S. 42 near Ryle High School.
An aide and a driver were also on the bus, which was taking the students home from Shirley Mann Elementary shortly before noon, said Randy Poe, Boone County Schools superintendent.
AirCare and several ambulances were called to the scene as a precaution, Poe said. Everyone was checked at the scene and there were no injuries among the preschoolers, though some parents chose to have their children checked out further, Poe said.
"All the students appear to be fine," said Barbara Brady, Boone County Schools' community relations coordinator.
The bus driver and aide were transported to an area hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
The driver of the truck was flown to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, an official on scene said.
Meadowlake subdivision resident Mark Hansel said he saw three adults carried away on stretchers, and that the driver of the pickup truck "looked bad."
Hansel said one of his neighbors went onto the bus to see if everyone was all right immediately after the accident happened. The neighbor saw how all of the students were in three- or five-point seat belt harnesses, and the aide had a cut on her forehead seemingly requiring stitches, Hansel said.
The white, four-door truck was traveling westbound on U.S. 42 at the time of the accident, Poe said, and the bus was turning out of a subdivision. The truck went about 20 yards beyond where the bus was hit and ended up in the ditch along U.S. 42.
The accident occurred just before noon near the 10000 block of U.S. 42, a dispatcher said. The crash was near Larry A. Ryle High School.
