Decatur, IL : Man killed in single-vehicle crash near Newton on Wednesday, December 21st2016

A 77-year-old man was killed in a single-vehicle crash Wednesday in Jasper County, the Illinois State Police said.

Allen D. Wetherholt of Wheeler was driving a 2001 Oldsmobile Intrigue, traveling westbound on 900th Avenue near 750th Street, three miles southwest of Newton.

Initial investigation indicates the car ran off the roadway to the right into a ditch, continued westbound and struck a field entrance head-on, police said. The crash occurred around 5:15 p.m.

Wetherholt was pronounced dead on the scene. He was wearing his seatbelt and was the only occupant of the vehicle.
