Beaver,PA : Big Beaver Falls teacher dies in Daugherty Twp. ATV crash on December, Sunday 17th 2017

A Big Beaver Falls teacher died early Sunday after an all-terrain vehicle crash in Daugherty Township.

Beaver County Coroner David Gabauer said Alex Olshanski, 39, of Pittsburgh died as a result of injuries suffered in an ATV accident. Police said the crash occurred at about midnight in an area off of Inman Road in Daugherty.

Big Beaver Falls Area School District Superintendent Donna Nugent said Olshanski was “a very caring and loving individual.” He worked as a physical education teacher at the district’s middle and elementary schools, splitting his time between the buildings. Olshanski was employed with the district for the past decade.

“It was a tough day for all of us,” Nugent said. Counselors were made available to students Monday and will likely be brought back in Tuesday to assist grieving students and staff cope with the loss, she said.

“They were in his life on a daily basis,” Nugent said. ”(We’re all) having a tough time.”

On its website, the district issued a statement offering “sincere condolences, sympathies and prayers to his family.”

An online memorial fund has been started to support Olshanski’s family. According to the post, Olshanski leaves behind two daughters, age 10 and 8. The fund has started to help the family deal with the costs they may face surrounding his death.

The New Brighton Area Police Department investigated the Sunday morning crash. Chief Ronald Walton said he believes speed and weather may have played a role.

A second person was injured in the crash, Walton said. That person was taken by medical helicopter to a Pittsburgh hospital.
