Thibodaux, LA : A 48-year-old man died after he was hit by a pickup truck at Green Acres Drive On Tuesday, August 16th, 2016

A 48-year-old man died this afternoon after he was hit by a pickup truck early this morning near Green Acres Drive in Thibodaux, State Police said.

Billy Dempster, of Thibodaux, died at University Medical Center New Orleans, Trooper First Class Jesse LaGrange said in a news release. Troopers responded to the crash shortly before 3:30 a.m.

LaGrange said Heath Santiny, 38, of Vacherie, was driving south on La. 307 in a 2012 Ford F-150 when he struck Dempster, who was walking near the center of the southbound lane. Santiny was not injured.

It's unknown if Dempster was impaired, but routine toxicology tests are pending, LaGrange said. Santiny tested negative for alcohol.
