Ocala,FL : Friends remember teen killed in Ocala on December, Tuesday 12th 2017
Students at an Ocala high school continue to cope after one of their own was shot and killed Tuesday night during a fight.
The victim was identified as Jeffrey Scott, 18.
WESH 2's Matt Lupoli spoke with a friend of the victim who is stunned that the teen is gone.
"Jeffrey was real funny and he always stood up for people," Scott's friend said.
Grief and disbelief -- that's what countless young people are left to cope with in Ocala.
"He looked out for people, he didn't care who you were, he always stood up," Scott's friend said.
A friend told WESH 2 News that Scott was more like a brother and someone she looked up to, who looked out for her and others.
"A part of me just went away. That was the last person I could picture being gone and saying 'Rest in peace' to," she said.
Scott was a senior at Vanguard High School. He was gunned down not far from campus.
Police said Scott was one of two teens who went looking for a friend after they heard the boy was badly beaten in a fight after a basketball game.
Officers said Marcus Cooper, 18, was also shot and is in critical condition.
Scott had also been rushed to a hospital, but couldn't be saved.
"Enjoy life while you can. Just be safe, because it's a cold world and you never know when it's your last day," Scott's friend said.
Ocala police haven't made any arrests, but said they're confident they've identified everyone involved.
